Tell Us About Your Journey In the Dental Field
I dreamed of being a Dentist since I was 10 years old. The happiest day of my life was my graduation from dental school. I love being able to help people and enjoy making patients happy.
My journey started off doing general dentistry in the United States Navy. After 4 years as a general dentistry I applied for residency putting Oral Surgery as my first choice and Periodontics as my second since I enjoyed both. I was selected for Periodontics and after 8 years as a periodontist, I ended up training Oral Surgeons at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, VA. I knew after watching full scope oral surgery, periodontics is where I belong.
I love improving people’s quality of life through periodontics and implant dentistry. It is truly gratifying to make people happy. My favorite type of dentistry is one that improves someone’s smile.
Can you Explain More about your Education and Experience in the Field?
I graduated from the Temple University School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1995. I then joined the United States Navy and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Naval Dental Center Great Lakes in 1996. I had the pleasure of being the sole dentist to 600 sailors on the USS Supply (AOE-6) from 1996-1999. I completed two six month deployments to Europe and the Persian Gulf while on the ship and I loved every minute of full scope dentistry. I went on to periodontics training in 2000 and graduated in 2003 from Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry in New Orleans, LA where I was also able to complete a Masters of Oral Biology. I was fully board certified by the Academy of Periodontology by November 2003. I returned to the Navy after training and was stationed in Newport, RI; Groton, CT; and Portsmouth, VA.; prior to transferring to the retired list October 1, 2017. I also spent some time with the Timberlane Dental Group in Vermont before transitioning back to RI where I am spending my time currently.
What do you like to do Outside the Office?
I am married and love to spend time with my husband (Joe); and five children: Bea 16, Gabriel 14, Andrew 13, William 10 and Nickolas 9. All my children are into sports so I spend a lot of time watching and coaching soccer, basketball and gymnastics. We also like to hike and ski and go bowling. A few of my children like the theater so you may catch me watching a play. Photography and cooking are two of my other hobbies but with five children I often run out of time.
