Dental Evaluations

An oral evaluation is recommended every six (6) months to prevent cavities and other dental problems. Dental X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool used to identify decay, extra teeth and check the progress of previous procedures.

15
Dental Cleanings

Regular cleanings help keep gums healthy and teeth cavity-free. A dental cleaning includes removal of tartar and plaque and polishing of the teeth to remove stains and prevent further buildup of plaque.

16
Restorative Dentistry

Fillings remove any decay that may be present in a tooth and replace the affected tooth structure. Cavities can be painful and can lead to more cavities and future dental problems. With fillings we can avoid these problems and help your smile feel clean, healthy and comfortable

17
Dental Sealants

Dental sealants, a safe resin, are applied to teeth, typically molars, to prevent cavities. They fill crevices and seal against food and plaque. Teeth are prepped, the sealant is painted on, and it hardens quickly, all in one visit.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a natural substance that helps strengthen teeth and prevent decay. Fluoride treatments are administered at this office as an important component of pediatric dental treatment. The fluoride is applied to the teeth in a gel, foam, or varnish form.

X-Rays

Digital dental x-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool for documenting your child’s dental health. This advanced technology reduces radiation exposure by more than 50 percent and produces instant, high-quality images that can be viewed immediately by the dentist and the parent.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Pediatric Dentistry

The American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that children start seeing the dentist by the age of 12 months, or within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth. Not only does this prevent tooth decay, it also helps establish our practice as your child’s dental home.

Children should see the dentist every six months for comprehensive oral evaluations and dental cleanings.

During a child’s first dental appointment, we will examine and count their teeth, take an x-ray if needed, and gently clean their teeth to remove plaque and tartar. Fluoride is applied to strengthen the enamel and prevent cavities, and we’ll provide you and your child with instruction on how to care for their teeth.

Unless a tooth is about to fall out, cavities need to be addressed. Untreated decay can cause pain, sensitivity, embarrassment, and leave a tooth vulnerable to breakage.

A combination of sugary foods and poor oral hygiene habits is often to blame, but some children naturally have more pits and fissures in their teeth where bacteria and food debris can collect and cause decay. In these cases, dental sealants can help prevent cavities from forming.

You know your child best! We always prefer performing procedures without dental sedation, but if you are concerned that your child will not tolerate this, please let us know.

Children need dental x-rays, but not at every appointment. We take a conservative approach when it comes to x-rays and use advanced digital radiograph equipment to reduce radiation exposure.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste, ensuring that your child eats a balanced diet, and regular fluoride treatments at the dentist are the best ways to strengthen a child’s teeth.
