One of the things that South County Smiles prides itself on is patient comfort and performing procedures in the best manner possible. One of the essential factors in being successful in this endeavor is the use of modern technology to decrease procedure time, improve healing quality and decrease the time it takes to heal, improve For these reasons we always strive to remain current and cognizant in our application of new Dental Technology. Some examples of things we utilize are detailed below.
Digital X-ray Scanner
In our office we use Digital Radiography which allows us to take x-rays using up to 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays. Using this technology, we are able to take an x-ray of your mouth by using a small sensor which records the image of your teeth and sends it to a computer. The result is a highly detailed image of your mouth that can easily be enhanced to better diagnose dental concerns and determine the very best treatment for each case. We specifically utilize DEXIS Platinum Sensor, which have been deemed the most comfortable on the market.
CBCT 3D imaging technology is far superior to conventional 2D dental imaging, as it enables practitioners to visualize all dental and facial structures in three dimensions and identify potential pathologic hard tissue lesions and other abnormalities. It also provides the most accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in general dentistry, periodontics, implant planning, oral maxillo-facial surgical cases, and orthodontics. It is crucial for your dentist to have the most accurate and complete information to properly plan your treatment. Unlike traditional x-rays, the Cone Beam CT image is a three dimensional computerized image that enables your dentist to very carefully and precisely diagnosis and plan your treatment. Safe and reliable 3-D cone beam imaging provides that information, with a host of additional advantages for both you and your dentist.
Advantages of 3-D Cone Beam imaging for patients:
- No pre-scan preparation needed.
- Your scan only takes 18 seconds, it’s quick and painless!
- Significantly reduced radiation and greater accuracy than conventional medical CT machines.
- 3-D images rather than “flat” dental pictures to visualize “inside” skull and jaw bone.
- Infinite number of views created from one scan taken in seconds.
Intra Oral Camera & Cavity Detection Device
The intra-oral camera makes going to the dentist easier for both the patient and the dental health provider.
Our patient sees exactly what the dentist sees on an in-office screen. If necessary, the dentist can pause on a particular tooth or area of the mouth to point out problems and explain possible treatment options. This also frees the patient to ask questions and become a part of the examination process.
The intra-oral camera enlarges the inside of the teeth to more than 40 times their actual size on a full color screen display. By zooming in on problem areas in affecting the teeth, dentists are capable of seeing much more than they could with the human eye alone. Furthermore, patients can receive printed pictures of the conditions the dentist finds, which may be beneficial for filing insurance claims.
At South County Smiles we use the SOPROLIFE camera which also offers auto fluorescence technology that allows us the ability to detect tooth decay at different stages of its development thus allowing us to provide the most conservative treatment.
Digital Scans (iTero Element)
The iTero Element Scanner is a state-of-the-art digital impression system that eliminates the need for messy putty in your mouth. It allows our staff to digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. Not only is this process far more comfortable than the old putty based impressions, it’s faster and can offer a superior clinical endpoint.
During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D virtual model of your mouth that we use with all Invisalign services including the Invisalign Outcome Simulator to show you what your new smile might look like.
Dental Laser Therapy
South County Smiles is proud to offer laser dentistry, which uses cutting edge technology to provide more comfortable, precise, and efficient dental care. We use laser therapy for a variety of procedures, including:
- Crown lengthening
- Gingival (gum) resculpting
- Easing tongue and cheek attachments
- Cold sores and canker sores
- Gum disease therapy
Laser dentistry has a number of benefits, but one of the most important is patient comfort. We also use them to promote gingival health by reducing periodontal pockets. eliminating the need for painful stitches or sutures. Other patients feel they have a “gummy” smile or that their teeth look too short. Laser dentistry allows your dentist to reshape the gums with little trauma to this sensitive area of the mouth. The end result is teeth that appear longer, making your smile more attractive.
It is clear that laser dentistry has become the ideal choice for patients – 97% of people who have had laser treatment would recommend it to their friends and family! Do you live in or around Southern Rhode Island? Call us today to schedule an appointment and find out more about laser dentistry.
ORAL 3D Printer
ORAL3D enables South County Smiles to create a three-dimensional model of our patients mouths through the use of Cone Beam Imaging and Dr Cicero’s innovative 3D Printer! With this technology our patients can physically visualize hard and soft tissues defects and our surgeons can carefully plan and prepare surgeries with more precision and comfort.
This is just another way that South County Smiles is working hard to enhance oral care for our patients. Striving to achieve the best possible experience and surgical outcomes.
