Traditional Implant Protocol (TIP)
The Traditional Dental Implant Protocol (TIP) involves a series of steps; each is very different but all can be done under one roof here at South County Smiles.
After placement of the implant, healing time is required to properly adhere the bone to the implant before the crown can be attached and full bite force can be applied. In most cases, it will take a few months to complete the healing process. During this healing time, you will have a temporary tooth replacement.
When the implant post fully heals and fuses with the bone, about 2-3 months after surgery, an abutment is used to secure the final dental restoration.
A dental crown, bridge, or denture can all be used in combination with a dental implant and abutment to replace missing teeth. The type of restoration used will be determined based on the number of missing teeth. You will once again be able to enjoy perfect occlusion and a strong healthy jawbone. Unlike other restorative dentistry treatments that restore lost teeth, dental implants work like natural tooth roots. You will be able to enjoy the full benefits of a healthy, happy, smile.
An informational video on the process is available here.
Did you know that at South County Smiles we have a bone regeneration expert, Dr. Giuseppe Cicero? If a Sinus Lift or Bone Augmentation is required for your implant you are in the best hands with Dr. Cicero!
How do you know if you have sufficient bone? Every implant case is preceded by thorough planning including a CT Scan (CBCT 3-D X Ray). The surgeons at South County Smiles then evaluate the results of your scan and determine if bone substitution will be necessary.
In most cases a sinus elevation or bone graft can be done at the same time as implant placement.
Teeth in a Day in Southern Rhode Island!
Our in-office dental technology and CT scan allow us to provide a solution, called the “All-on-4” or “Teeth in a Day” solution. Teeth in a Day offers all the advantages of dental implants without the lengthy treatment process.
In general, Teeth in a Day candidates are individuals who:
• Are in need of full top and/or bottom tooth replacement
• Want a more reliable and sturdy alternative to dentures
• Are in good to fair physical health
• Want to eat, speak and smile with improved confidence
Teeth in a Day process requires planning in order to be successful. Collaboration between the surgeons, the restorative dentists and the lab technicians is the key. We will use CT scanning to create a three-dimensional map of the surgical site, develop a customized treatment plan and then proceed with the actual treatment procedure when all preparations are completed.
